— Downbeat Magazine

Ron Smith
December 22nd

Phenomenal Alto Sax

For those who saw Ron at JOSA last season, this is must-see event as Ron returns to JOSA with his smooth jazzy, funky charisma and stage presence. Last season’s audience insisted we bring Ron back and so we have on this holiday session!

Giacomo Gates
January 5th

Renowned International Vocalist

This unequaled vocalese master is a hipster’s hipster and a story teller’s story teller. He’s Lord Buckley and Professor Irwin Cory by way of Eddie Jefferson and Jon Hendricks. Captivating, entertaining, amusing and oh so musical, this cat is absolutely without equal. No matter where he roams the stage, the reviews are almost always the same… ‘Where did this cat come from? He’s absolutely phenomenal!’ And, when he puts his lyrics to Bird’s solos, the magic really begins.”

Amanda Carr
January 19th

Award-Winning Jazz Vocalist

A favorite and long-time veteran of the JOSA stage, Amanda Carr is a multi-faceted singer, musician, performer and writer who continues to creatively energize and inspire.

Greg Abate
February 2nd

Amazing Alto Saxophonist

High-energy jazz doesn’t describe the full feeling of listening to hard bop saxophonist Greg Abate in live performance because so much intensity and idea-making fuels his music. But it comes close. Even his approach to ballads and sambas have that lilt. They start out breezy or laid-back, but they are certain to have their burning moments.Count on it.”

- Ken Franckling - Jazz Notes

Back Bay Transit
February 16th

Bill Wightman, John Dassoni, Ajlan Beer, Jody Bregler, Greg Mostovoy, & Jeff Hoyt

Back Bay Transit is a fresh and unique musical group currently working the New England region. Comprised of six top-notch musicians, they perform a blend of music classics from the genres of funk, rock, pop and jazz.

Back Bay Transit’s musicians include keyboardist and vocalist, Bill Wightman, and bassist and vocalist, John Dassoni. Also featured is outstanding female vocalist, Ajlan Beer; and percussionist, Jody Bregler. The horn section includes Greg Mostovoy on saxophones and Jeff Hoyt on trumpet and flugelhorn.

Jason Palmer
March 2nd

Trumpet- Extraordinaire

“Wally’s Cafe Jazz Club exudes a joyous, giddy energy, and Jason Palmer is right at home at the Boston venue. He stands erect and observant in the eye of the storm. Streams of straight-eighths pour from his trumpet and weave brief, bright lines… Palmer draws easily from many wells— [with] lightning Freddie Hubbard riffs…”

— Fred Bouchard, Downbeat

Dan Moretti
March 16th

Renowned Saxophonist

Moretti is a supple player. His soprano tends more toward the willowy approach than the shrill, crying approach. His tenor eschews bluntness and rides the melodic curves smoothly.

- Jazz Times

Kemp Harris
March 30th

Amazing Jazz Vocalist

“Harris has his finger on the pulse of the modern world with an intensity born of awareness, and he writes with an understanding of what our lives lack. He delivers this wisdom with a timeless voice.”

- Art Tipaldi, Blues Revue
